MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

We enforce a minimum content requirement necessary for us to make a preferred product claim. Unless the fibre does not support a high percentage of preferred materials due to quality issues (see specified below), the minimum content requirement of a preferred material for a BESTSELLER brand to be able to make a  claim on the product is at least 50%.

ORGANIC COTTON (MIN. 50%)

Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that reduce negative impact on the environment without toxic pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, improving soil health and protecting biodiversity. But aside from the obvious environmental benefits of organically grown cotton, the absence of hazardous chemicals also helps to improve the work environment of the local farmer. Our goal is to source 100% of our cotton from preferred alternatives (Better Cotton, organic or recycled cotton) by 2022, and by 2025 we will source 30% from organic cotton.

Our minimum requirement is 50% organic cotton.

RECYCLED POLYESTER (MIN. 50%)

Recycled polyester is a synthetic material made from post-consumer or post-industrial waste such as discarded plastic bottles, used polyester garments or fabric scraps from manufacturing. It is collected washed or shredded and processed and finally re-spun into new polyester fibres that can be used to make new garments. The use of recycled polyester reduces water and energy consumption in the garment production process and reuses valuable non-renewable extracted sources. By 2025, we will source 50% of our polyester from recycled polyester or other more sustainable alternatives.

Our minimum requirement is 50% recycled polyester.

MAN-MADE CELLULOSIC FIBRES (MIN. 50%)

Man-made cellulosic fibres (MMC) include fibres such as viscose, lyocell and modal. They are fibres made from wood pulp of trees. They are washable, soft, smooth and have a great potential to become a preferred material over petroleum-based fibres. To minimise pollution from its production process and to ensure such process does not contribute to deforestation, we are increasing the sourcing of our preferred MMC fibres, primarily from the supplier LENZINGTM.

Preferred MMC fibres originate from certified sustainably managed forests and are processed in a closed-loop production where water and chemicals/ solvents are recycled. Preferred MMC fibres are supported by verified data on the reduced impact and are traceable. By 2022, 100% of our man-made cellulosic fibres will be sourced responsibly in line with industry best practice, such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

Our minimum requirement for all MMC fibres is 50%.
