1. What is organic cotton?

Organic cotton is generally defined as cotton grown without the use of hazardous pesticides or synthetic fertilisers. The organic cotton we use is certified by the world's leading processing standards for organic textiles. The certification ensures us that no harmful chemicals are used - this is for the good of all the people involved in the processing of our cotton garments.

    How is organic cotton grown?

Cotton is a plant like any other plant, which we sow and harvest. On the cotton plant, flowers grow and it's from these flowers' seed-pods that we get cotton. The seed-pods grow, and when they become ripe, they open up, allowing the cotton fibres to burst forth and then dry out. Once this happens, the cotton can be picked. Organic cotton is grown like conventional cotton, but the major difference is that organic cotton isn't treated with synthetic fertiliser or hazardous pesticides.

    Why choose organic cotton?

In regards to the quality, there isn't any visible difference between organic and conventional cotton. However, there are still lots of advantages in choosing organic cotton rather than conventional cotton. Since organic cotton is grown without the use of hazardous pesticides and synthetic fertilisers, by buying garments made with organic cotton, you are supporting organic farming practices which are better for the environment.

    When is organic cotton used?

Organic cotton can be worn by children in all age groups and in all the seasons of the year. At NAME IT we work every day on making each of our collections more sustainable than the last one. We have specifically put a strong focus on cotton as cotton has the largest share of all fibres used in our collections. We have come a long way, and we are working hard to replace all our conventional cotton with a more sustainable alternative, with a focus on organic cotton. By 2025, our objective is for all our cotton to be organic. It's an ambitious goal, but we are certain that we can achieve it.

Can organic cotton be reused or composted?

Organic cotton can be reused in the exact same way as conventional cotton, as all clean and natural textile fibres such as e.g. cotton, flax and hemp can be composted. At NAME IT we work every day on creating collections that are made with high-quality fabrics - extending their product lifetime. This is also the reason why we always encourage you to pass on clothes that your children can no longer use - either to family and friends or to the nearest second-hand shop, so that other children can derive pleasure from them.

    How to wash organic cotton?

Clothes made with organic cotton should be washed in the same way as conventional cotton. We always have washing instructions on our products, so you can see how to wash the clothes in the most suitable manner. This also ensures that the product has a longer lifetime when it is washed according to the stated instructions.

    Where is organic cotton grown?

Organic cotton is grown in many different places around the world, but the majority of the organic cotton, which we use for our collections at NAME IT, is harvested in India and Africa.

Is organic cotton softer than conventional cotton?

Clothes made with organic cotton aren't necessarily softer than conventional cotton. This depends a lot on the production and processing of the material, which comes after the cotton is picked from the plant. Both organic cotton and conventional cotton can be more or less soft.

Is organic cotton better for babies?

As organic cotton is grown without the use of hazardous pesticides and synthetic fertilisers, it's better for nature and the environment - and thus for all people. You can find lots of clothes made with organic cotton on nameit.com.

Will clothes in organic cotton shrink?

Clothes made with organic cotton do not shrink any more or any less than clothes made with conventional cotton.
